In 1960s Paris, a young American filmmaker finds himself in over his head when he's hired to direct a sci-fi film called 'CQ 2001.' The director he's replacing was obsessed with the actress playing Dragonfly, causing creative issues and delaying production. Meanwhile, the young filmmaker is also documenting his personal life on film with total honesty. As shooting progresses, he struggles to balance his professional duties, his crumbling relationship with his girlfriend, and his growing fascination with Dragonfly.
