Story
Maria, a young woman from an upper-class background, lives in the shadow of her husband Carl. When she discovers she's pregnant, she begins to question her role as a wife and becomes drawn to two less respectable men: Lou, a Danish man with a casual job in Bergen, and Jens, a criminal who has never succeeded in his profession. Maria enters into relationships with both men, but instead of finding fulfillment, their interactions lead to provocation and eventually an act of violence that forces Lou and Maria to flee together. They seek refuge on an island, but things do not go as planned.
