Story
After being forced into a marriage and enduring a humiliating work routine in the hands of his father-in-law, Zé Araújo becomes the mythical Ojuara, an unconventional hero devoted to debauchery.
Summary
In Brazil's Northeast, José Araújo, a wolfish traveling salesman, arrives in Jardim dos Caiacós, seals a deal with the merchant Turco, and celebrates at a ball. There he meets Dualiba, Turco's forty-something virgin daughter. After a passionate encounter, Dualiba reveals their tryst to her father, forcing José into marriage. Humiliated by his new life and laughed at town-wide, José reinvents himself as Ojuara, challenging the devil and bullies across the countryside en route to São Sarué. Along his journey, he captivates Jacirene in a brothel, rescues trapeze artist Sue from her abusive troupe, confronts Mãe de Pantanha and her fearsome legend, and romances Eleonora, daughter of a powerful farmer. Ojuara's name becomes a myth, defying evil and inspiring hope amidst the dusty trails of Northeastern Brazil.
