Story
The movie 'Original Sin' (2001) directed by Michael Cristofer follows a young coffee grower, Bill Parish, who travels to Cuba and orders a mail-order bride, Julia Russell. When Julia arrives, she captivates Bill with her beauty and charm, but it is later revealed that she sent false photos to ensure he would love her for her personality, not her looks. However, Julia harbors dark secrets; she is actually an actress and con artist who teams up with a fellow actor, Louis Pardo, to fleece men out of their money. As Bill and Julia's relationship deepens, so does the web of deceit they are entwined in. The film explores themes of love, betrayal, and sexual obsession as Julia must ultimately decide between her loyalty to Bill and her sadistic former lover, Louis.
Summary
'Original Sin' is a 2001 erotic thriller directed by Michael Cristofer, based on Cornell Woolrich's novel 'Waltz into Darkness'. The film stars Thomas Jane as Bill Parish, a coffee grower who marries Julia Russell (Angelina Jolie), a woman he believes to be his mail-order bride. However, their relationship becomes complicated when Julia's true identity is revealed, and she is entangled in a web of deceit with her former lover Louis Pardo (Antonio Banderas). The film explores themes of love, betrayal, power dynamics, and the consequences of deception. It is notable for its explicit content, including sadistic acts between Bill and Julia. Despite mixed critical reception, 'Original Sin' stands out as a unique blend of erotic thriller, romance, and drama, set against the backdrop of 1950s Cuba.
