Story
Professor of language and philosophy Dominic Matei, a 70-year-old Romanian man, survives being struck by lightning and finds himself aging backwards at an extraordinary rate, transforming from elderly to middle-aged in just one week. This unique predicament draws unwanted attention, including that of the Nazis who suspect him of being a spy due to his sudden rejuvenation. While evading capture, Dominic meets a young woman named Veronica who shares a similar experience with lightning and exhibits unusual abilities. Together, they embark on a globe-trotting journey across Europe and beyond, as Dominic discovers that Veronica's newfound powers may hold the key to unlocking the mysteries of his own aging process and perhaps even eternal youth.
Summary
Francis Ford Coppola returned to filmmaking after a decade-long hiatus with 'Youth Without Youth', a fantastical romantic mystery that marked a departure from his previous works. The film stars Tim Roth as Dominic Matei, a Romanian professor who ages backwards following a lightning strike, and Bruno Ganz as Dominic's doppelgänger, the mysterious Dr. Serge Caravaille. Coppola draws inspiration from various cinematic styles and themes throughout history to craft an intricate tale of love, identity, and the human desire for eternal youth. Set against the backdrop of World War II and spanning multiple continents, 'Youth Without Youth' is a compelling exploration of fate, destiny, and the blurred line between reality and fantasy.
