Story

Roman Polanski's 'Tragedy of Macbeth' (1971) follows Shakespeare's classic tragedy about a Scottish lord named Macbeth. After being crowned Thane of Cawdor by King Duncan, Macbeth, driven by ambition and egged on by his wife, murders the king with the intention to seize the throne for himself. However, as guilt sets in, Lady Macbeth begins experiencing hallucinations due to her complex over their shared crime. Meanwhile, the dead king's son, Malcolm, conspires against Macbeth aiming to expose him and reclaim his rightful place.

Summary

This film is Roman Polanski's adaptation of Shakespeare's play 'Macbeth', set in medieval Scotland. The story revolves around power, ambition, guilt, and their consequences on the characters involved. It explores themes of moral corruption, political intrigue, and tragic fate. Though not an exact replica of Shakespeare's original text, Polanski's version is renowned for its stark visual style and intense performances, particularly by stars Jon Finch as Macbeth and Francesca Annis as Lady Macbeth.
