Born as Mélanie Thierry on July 17, 1981, in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, a commune near Paris, France, she began her career as a sought-after child and teen model. Managed by the Karin agency, she appeared in prestigious campaigns for brands like Hermès before transitioning into acting in the late 1990s.
She first gained international attention at the age of 17 for her role in Giuseppe Tornatore's The Legend of 1900 (1998). Her career reached a turning point in 2010 when she won the César Award for Most Promising Actress for her performance in the drama One for the Road (Le dernier pour la route). Known for her versatility, Thierry has moved effortlessly between French auteur cinema, such as The Princess of Montpensier (2010), and major international productions, including the sci-fi thriller Babylon A.D. (2008) alongside Vin Diesel, Terry Gilliam’s The Zero Theorem (2013), and Spike Lee’s war drama Da 5 Bloods (2020).
